It’s not good for your health to be cooped up in your home during the winter and not do anything. However, if you are going out for some winter recreation, you need to be prepared for the weather. That way, you’ll have some fun and be healthy as well. At CERAland, we recommend that you take the steps listed below to maintain your health during the winter.
Check the Weather News
Whether you want to ice-skate or simply head for the nearest park for a snowball fight, you need to be sure that it’s safe to go outside. If the weather news channels advise that you stay indoors for the evening, you should do just that. Make sure that the weather is perfectly suitable for your outdoor adventures.
It’s important to keep yourself properly protected from the cold. Its the only way you’re going to remain healthy despite being outside in the cold. Make sure that the first layer is a moister wicking material, followed by a layer of wool or fleece, and a wind proof jacket. That would ensure that you’re warm enough to remain healthy. Of course, you need to wear gloves, hats, and scarves as well.
You shouldn’t linger in the cold for more than 3 to 4 hours. This is especially true for children. After every three hours, take a break from the outdoors and find someplace warm. That would bring your body temperature back to healthy levels and keep problems like flu away.
Keep Yourself Hydrated
People often tend to forget to drink water when they’re outdoors during the winter and that’s not healthy. It’s vital to drink either warm drinks or water when you’re outdoors during the winter. This would help keep your body temperature level. You should take a break every now and then and if you can manage it, find something to eat as well. It can be something as simple as a protein bar. That would keep your energy levels up.
Always be on the lookout for frostbite. If your hands start feeling numb and are white, you’re experiencing frostbite and it should be addressed immediately. You should head home and remove all wet clothes and rinse the numb area with warm water until the sensation comes back.
